Uilu Stories was founded in 2014 by Aka Hansen with a goal to tell indigenous stories about Inuit.
Aka Hansen (1987) is a film director, advocate, and activist. As a multidisciplinary creative, she is deeply involved in the decolonization movement in Kalaallit Nunaat and integrates these themes into her films, art, and writing. Aka is best known for her work advocating for the rights of Inuit peoples to tell their own stories, on their own terms. Her interests and activism also focus on gender, queerness, and the matriarchal traditions of Inuit life.
Since 2008, Aka has been creating films for Inuit audiences in Kalaallit Nunaat. She graduated from the Super16 film school in Copenhagen in 2018 and soon after returned to Nuuk, where she currently resides.
Aka Hansen released her debut book “Manifesti” in November 2024.
